We’re past the halfway point of August, which means the “we still have time” feeling is starting to run out. Here’s everything actually left on the calendar this month, plus the one deadline that’s quietly reshaping a lot of local families’ schedules right now.

Saturday, Aug 23: Al Laskey Memorial Auto Show, Collegeville. Perkiomen Valley High School, starting at 8 a.m. Free, easy, and a genuinely nice way to spend a Sunday morning even if cars aren’t usually your thing. Rows of classics, coffee in hand, home before it gets hot.

Monday, Aug 24: First Day of School, Spring-Ford Area School District. Not an event so much as a hard stop. If you’re a family hoping to be settled into Royersford, Collegeville, or Spring City before then, the math is tight. A typical closing takes 30 to 45 days from an accepted offer, so if you’re not already under contract, closing before the 24th isn’t realistic, and I’d rather tell you that now than let you chase a date that’s already gone. That doesn’t kill the plan, it just shifts it: kids can start enrolled from a temporary address while we close in September, or we simply target a smooth move over Labor Day weekend instead. If you’re already under contract, this is the week to confirm your clear-to-close and lock in your moving truck before the last-minute rush.

Friday, Aug 28: Endless Summer 5K, Music & Brews, Collegeville. Anderson Farm Park, 6 p.m. Run it, walk it, or just show up for the second half, live music and local beer in a park full of people trying to squeeze one more good night out of summer.

Saturday, Aug 30: Pottstown Nights Car Show, Pottstown. High Street closes from 3 to 9 p.m. for the season’s last and biggest cruise night. Hundreds of cars, food trucks, and a downtown that feels completely alive for one evening. If you’ve never been, this is the one to go to.

One more thing worth knowing now, not in October: the Colebrookdale Railroad’s fall foliage trains, the scenic rides running weekends between Boyertown and Pottstown from October into mid-November, tend to sell out their best Sundays before the leaves even turn. If a fall train ride is on your list, mid to late August is when you actually book it.

That’s a full slate for two weeks. Pick whichever one fits your family and get out there before Labor Day flips the switch on everything.
